was born in Columbus Ohio and attended college at the University of Oklahoma, graduating with a BA in History and a minor in Education with a coaching certificate. His plan to teach and coach in a high school changed when he served as a Conscientious Objector during the Vietnam War, working as an orderly. This work stirred his interest in medicine, and he eventually attended medical school at the University of Iowa. After completing a Pediatric Residency and Neonatal Fellowship at Iowa, Dr. Wispe continued on to work at the Children’s Hospital of Cincinnati, the University of Pittsburgh, and the University of Arizona. In 2008, he moved back to Columbus, Ohio, and worked at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and the Ohio State University in Neonatology. He received an MTS at Trinity Lutheran Seminary in 2016. He now works part-time in Neonatology and is affiliated with the Bioethics and Medical Humanism program at Ohio State. He is married to Lisa, his resilient and patient wife. They have two children, Megan and Matthew, and five grandchildren.
