went to college at the University of North Carolina where he met his wife of 35 years, Carrie. He attended Duke Medical School, and he completed his Internal Medicine training at Vanderbilt. He is now a Professor in the Duke Department of Medicine and the Division of Infectious Disease where he teaches trainees in his basic science research lab, the hospital in-patient services, and in the medical school classroom. He and Carrie live in Raleigh, NC and have three adult daughters.
