TMC Seminar (Online): “Infusing Hope Amid the Mental Health Crisis: Reflections from the Journey of a Psychology/Spirituality Integrationist” with Tonya D. Armstrong PhD, MTS, LP, HSP-P

Tonya D. Armstrong, Ph.D., M.T.S., a native of Durham, North Carolina, is a licensed psychologist and the founder and CEO of The Armstrong Center for Hope (www.armstrongcfh.com), a private group practice of multi-disciplinary mental health professionals cultivating psychological and spiritual wellness for all ages at their Durham and Raleigh locations.
Clinically, Dr. Armstrong works primarily with children, adolescents, couples, and families on issues of depression, anxiety, ADHD, grief and loss, and relationship challenges. Additionally, she provides consultation to businesses and professional leaders seeking strategic approaches to wellness in the workplace. As much as she enjoys providing, managing, and supervising clinical services at the ACFH and consultation in the community, Dr. Armstrong also immensely enjoys speaking on a host of topics at local, regional, national, and international events. For 21 years, Dr. Armstrong served as the Minister of Congregational Care and Counseling at Union Baptist Church in Durham.
Dr. Armstrong double-majored in psychology and music at Yale University, earned her Master’s and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in clinical psychology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and received a Master of Theological Studies degree from Duke University Divinity School (magna cum laude). During 2018-2019, Dr. Armstrong served as President of the North Carolina Psychological Association, making her the first African American female to lead the organization.
Ever a lover of gospel music, “Dr. T” Tonya Armstrong released in 2009 her debut gospel album, Choose Hope, which is available on amazon.com. She is also the author of the award-winning book/CD set, Blossoming Hope: The Black Christian Woman’s Guide to Mental Health and Wellness and Blossoming Hope Companion: Soothing Songs and Spoken Word Recordings, available on Amazon, Kindle, and in audiobook format at Google Play and Apple Music. Dr. Armstrong has been married for 30 years to her college sweetheart, with whom she enjoys raising their two teen-aged children. Whether laughing, singing, speaking, or teaching and encouraging her clients, Dr. Armstrong loves living life out loud!
